A great attitude does much more than turn on the lights in our worlds; it seems to magically connect us to all sorts of serendipitous opportunities that were somehow absent before we changed." Earl Nightingale

TELEPHONE TIPS
Smile when you answer the phone and your voice will sound more pleasant. If you dial a wrong number, apologize and hang up. Speak directly into the mouth piece. Do not eat, drink or shuffle papers while on the phone. Background noises are heightened and will irritate. Vary the tonality of your voice to add interest to your words. Be considerate of someone's time. Calls to friends during office hours should be avoided or kept short if you must make the call.

THE FINE ART OF TOASTING
The tern "toast" comes from an old English custom of placing a piece of toasted bread in the bottom of a glass to enhance the flavor of beer or wine. After the toast was saturated, the person would eat the toast. Today, you may toast with wine, champagne or most any beverage. Even if you are not drinking it is appropriate to raise a glass in the spirit of things.

When you are the person being toasted, the rule is not to drink but to either raise your glass or nod to those toasting you as an acknowledgement. At large events, please rise when making a toast. It is a sign of respect to stand while toasting. Please don't click the glasses or silverware to gain attention. Clinking of glasses is gauche. This custom started in the Middle Ages for the purpose of spilling a little wine into the other person's glass to assure they were not being poisoned. Proper protocol suggests that you should rise after being toasted to and respond with a toast of your own.
